team development

Do people in your organization who need to work closely together end up in conflict or unable to produce a quality outcome together? Team alignment is one of the most critical requirements of an organization.

Not only must functional teams within departments work together to achieve results, but also teams that cross department boundaries need to collaborate to achieve your organization’s purpose and mission. Often there are communication breakdowns, inability to define specific outcomes for team action, or failures to meet deadlines and budgets.

We offer a set of services, which enable your groups and teams to communicate effectively, appreciate differences, and produce outcomes that work for the organization.

Team Assessment:

Through interviews with team members and leadership, we determine the breakdown that is interfering with team work. We are looking for ways that the team fails to align with organizational purpose and mission, around a common goal, or in their internal communications. Once it is clear what the difficulties are, it is possible to design a custom team process.

Team Building:

This is a process which addresses relationships and communications while at the same time working on important organizational goals. We feel that addressing team breakdowns through simulated exercises misses an opportunity to have the team perform on real work needs. True team dynamics will surface when people are addressing things they care about. In this setting, it is possible to stop the work on the task at hand, address the interaction process to see how it is preventing alignment and completion of work products, and then proceed with the work task. This is on-the-ground, practical, and pragmatic team development.

"Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success. "
Henry Ford

Participant Coaching:

We have found that team building is more successful when coupled with individual coaching of the team members. The reason for this is that all teams are made up of individuals who bring along their personal performance strengths and weaknesses to the team setting. Often it is these individual behaviors which impede team effectiveness. and it becomes more difficult to address individual development needs in the context of a group.  Coaching each individual in the context of changing behaviors that are ineffective in a group setting is like putting high octane into a gas tank. The group process accelerates because the individuals bring in their own awareness and change process as fuel for the group change process. We highly recommend that team building processes be complemented with coaching. This is particularly the case when working with senior leadership teams.
